Put the advert’s job title under your name

Recruiters and their software search by job title. If your CV uses different words for the same job, it can be missed before anyone reads it.

Many employers, especially larger companies and companies in the Gulf, receive CVs through hiring software. A recruiter types the job title into a search box, and the software shows the CVs that contain those words. A CV that calls the same job by another name may not come up in that search.

What to do

Copy the job title exactly as the advert writes it, and put it on the line under your name. If the advert says “Logistics Coordinator”, write “Logistics Coordinator”, not “Supply chain specialist” or “Coordinator of logistics”.

Then name the same job in the first sentence of your summary. That is the second place both software and people look.

Only if it is true

Use the advert’s title only for a job you can do and have done in substance. If your last title was “Warehouse Supervisor” and the work matches the advert, keep your real title in your experience, and use the advert’s words in your headline and summary. Never change the title a past employer gave you.

When the advert is in another language

Write the title in the language of the advert. If you apply in Arabic, use the Arabic title from the advert, and add the English one in brackets if the company works in both.
